While I love all four seasons here in the Mid-Atlantic area, it is Spring that brings me true joy. Already I’m hearing the birds chirping, and the receding snow mounds uncover the promise of green. This is the time of the garden catalogs, hope-filled seed packets, and ill-judged, too-early plant purchases. But it’s all from the yearning for what is truly the most spectacular time of year.
And how better to celebrate it than through the voyeurism that is garden tours. Here are my local favorites:
VIRGINIA GARDEN WEEK, April 18-25
The traditional and extraordinary gardens of Virginia are open to you April 18-25 this year. What a great way to spend a week – traveling all over the Commonwealth peaking behind the gates of these otherwise un-seeable spaces.
For more details and information about these fabulous tours, check out: Virginia Garden Tours.
BEYOND THE GARDEN GATES, May 16-17
Not to be outdone, the gifted gardeners of Frederick, Maryland will strut their stuff May 16-17. Make a weekend of it, as May 14-17 Chartreuse & co opens (and our grounds are at their most beautiful at that time). Frederick’s Beyond the Garden Gates satisfies your curiosity perfectly. Who hasn’t strolled down 18th century cobbled streets just dying to see what’s beyond those well-tended walls? Here’s your chance.
CHARTREUSE & CO, April 17-19, May 2/3 (Market Days), May 14-17
No garden is complete without furnishings, architectural interest, urns, and sculpture. There’s no better place to find these essential elements than Chartreuse & co (and we’re open both Garden Tour weekends). Take a look at some of my favorite garden items from last year:
Enjoy your Spring planning, and we’ll see you soon!
